Along with storage options we are warming up the season with a little charitable giving. We need your assistance to make it really spectacular. While we celebrate with our families let us not forget to help those in need. The Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love fundraiser is unique to our town.
Sheriff Al Millard became the Sheriff in 1988 of Walker County. He did not only fight crime, he was a pillar of the community and through the Stocking Full of Love program we honor his memory. He started the program in 1989 and began with only 37 children. Because of exciting fundraisers the Sheriffs department is able to gather enough supplies every year for all the applicants.
The biggest year of donations collected was the year the economy was hard on us all. The Al Millard Stocking Full of Love program helped over 2,000 kids find toys for Christmas. The Walker County Sheriffs department starts getting the word out in early spring and does not lose motivation until the every kids has the toy. There are fundraisers like car shows and festivals to help raise money. 10 days before Christmas they open the doors of a nearby gym and kids and parents are amazed at the generosity of their town. Families walk into a unique toy shop, that will take the burden of providing gifts away. Volunteers help kids find a toy that means the most to them.
Sheriff Millard worked for the FBI as an administrative employee and later a Special Agent. He received numerous awards for his heroism in the field and proudly retired from the FBI in 1986. His valiant work was honored by the Georgia Senate in 1996, this was also the same year he passed away. Sheriff Al Millard continues to be a role model to all of us in Rossville GA.
With your help we certainly were able to give back to our community yet again this year. Thank you to all those who donated.
